RECENT NEW DEVELOPMENTS

NEW MODIFIED PROFILE FOR HOLDEN V6 ENGINES.

Designed for the Series II Ecotech engine, this profile has characteristics to minimise the need for recalibration of the Engine Control Module, (ECM or "the chip") and uses reverse flank geometry for extending airflow at high revs while maintaining low revs torque and good idle. Chassis Dynamometer tests have recorded 180 BHP at the wheels with no other engine or "chip" mods, and with auto transmission. Changing to a manual transmission, extracter exhaust, and optimising the chip increased torque over the full engine range, with peak power increased to 192 BHP. This was a Series II non Ecotech engine.

When fitted to a Series II Ecotech engine, again with no other mods, but the ECM system optimised, peak power was 193 BHP.

The profiles have recently been applied to a Series I engine, and performance results are awaited.

As the profiles can be ground to a good standard camshaft, and performance increased without idle problems or the need for expensive ECM optimisation, this development is excellent value for money.

QUALITY ACCREDITATION UPGRADED.

During 2003, the Company revised and upgraded it's Quality Management System to meet the ISO 9001:2000 Standard. Following the Third Party External Audit conducted in November the Company has been accredited as a Quality Endorsed Company to this latest Standard.

CAMSHAFT LOBE POLISHING - BUYER BEWARE.

Some firms involved in engine component repair or rework have adopted a polishing or linishing process to camshaft lobes and journals. This process produces a surface appearance quite close to that of the conventional grinding process, and to the untrained eye, a camshaft so treated, could be taken, accepted, or passed off as having been reground.

This process is in no way capable of restoring camshaft lobe profiles to their original geometric specification. In fact, the process causes the profile to be further degraded both in profile accuracy and axial flatness, reducing the durability expectation of the lobes and followers, particularly in higher duty engines. Only camshaft lobes reground on specially designed camshaft regrinding machines using profile masters can restore lobes to the correct shape for fully reliable performance.

Engine assemblers are advised to beware and take care in accepting reworked camshafts for fitting.

All camshafts reground by Camshaft Engineering use master controlled camlobe regrinding machines.
